Wismar was founded in 1229 and belonged to the "Hanse" city alliance between 14th - 16th centuries. In 2002 it was listed as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

Within Hist.Urban the Municipality of Wismar will develop an integrated revitalisation concept for an historical quarter, using participatory methods with the aim to facilitate the implementation of the results:

• creating a public forum
• setting up short and mid-term goals
• new concept for public uses, housing, elderly people, social support and tourism
