Regensburg dates back to a Celtic settlement in 500 B.C. 179 A.D. it became the Roman fortress "Castra Regina" and started to be an important trading centre in Europe. 1245 to 1803 it became the "Independent imperial City" status and in 2006 the status as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Within Hist.Urban the Municipality of Regensburg will

  • develop innovative ideas and actions for the revitalization of historical centres through a public participation measure (future workshop with local actors);
  • implement a pilot project to attract and support business start-ups to the historical centre to strengthen its economic basis;
  • organize the Winter Academy in 2006 to support the know-how exchange.
