Hist.Urban aims at strengthening the attractiveness and quality of life in small and medium sized historical towns to support a sustainable urban development and polycentric settlement structure within the CADSES area. The towns feature with its built-cultural heritage a special potential which ought to be developed and used for the integrative and sustainable revitalisation process.

The need for the project Hist.Urban results from the rapid social and economic transformation and structural changes which challenge the cities to make considerable efforts to maintain or regain their urban functions and to be able to act as engines for their region. Historical towns feature with their built-cultural heritage a significant potential, whereas they have to find ways to link the preservation of the build-cultural heritage with the sustainable urban development.
